St. Christopher’s Hospice was established nearly 40 years ago to provide and maintain residential nursing and convalescent beds and day care for the end of life care of persons (without regard to race, creed or means) who are suffering from any late stage chronic or terminal illness in Cavan and Monaghan.
More recently they have made major progress in agreeing with the Department of Health and the HSE for the provision of a state of the art specialist palliative care inpatient hospice. They recently submitted an application for planning permission to refurbish the existing hospice building including the provision of 16 new hospice bedrooms and a daycare facility.
They are currently part way through the building of the new facility and plan to have this completed during 2026 with competion late 2026 of a new state of the art facility providing services to the communities of Cavan and Monaghan in late 2026/early 2027. They are conducting a major fundraising drive to meet the shortfall in funds to complete the project, and we at CLVP Cavan are delighted to be able to assist them along their journey

The extension and redevelopment will cost circa €6m. Works will include a new quadrangle of 16 single patient bedrooms. Each room will have all the latest technologies giving patients full control of their environment. All patient rooms will have access to a personal patio overlooking the landscaped gardens.
The staffing of the specialist hospice will encompass clinical leadership by 2 Specialist Palliative Care Consultants, a clinical nurse manager, a team of 16 nurses and 8 care assistants. The core care clinical team will be supported by a multi-disciplinary team including pharmacy, social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, bereavement and spiritual support.
Respite, Day Care/Outpatient services will be provided and the service will be integrated with the existing 7 day community-based Homecare services.
The respite and bereavement services will also support patient’s loved ones.
